Aunt Elsie Lovelace joins her family

This morning, July 29, 2010, at 4:30 am, Aunt Elsie Rushton Turpin Lovelace passed away. I don't think I have seen such a nurturer and gatherer as Aunt Elsie. She loved without reservation and served her family without exception.

Of course we are sad, because we will miss her. We can be assured that she is happy now with her husband(s), parents, siblings and other friends. We will miss her giggle, her prodigious memory and her bowling skills!

Is everyone ready for the family reunion?!! We would like to kind of have a count (for food) and maybe what you will be doing for your meal. Richard & I will be doing tinfoil dinners on Saturday night.

We are really excited to get together with everyone! We know that Hailey will be in England (boohoo)!:) and that Hannah & Craig will be too close to d-day to come. We will miss all of you, but totally understand. If there is anyone else that won't be able to make it, please let us know. Also, we scheduled Thursday to have an extra day if anyone wanted to take advantage of that. Just feel free to come when you can!!

I couldn't help but change the background of the blog to a pink color. Pink will forever remind me of Grammy. I especially miss her at this time right now. I'm sure a lot of us do. Here is a poem that Hospice sent my Mom that I think puts beautifully into words how Grammy may be thinking right now, and it also gives me comfort.

Christmas in Heaven
I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below,
With tiny lights like heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tears,
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Herro family! I finally found some time to sit down and bloooog. I thought I would share photos from the Ahlzeimer's walk. What an awesome little walk. I say little cause it was 4 or 5 laps... 1 if you were rolling by wheelchair. It's incredible to see how many people are affected by the nasty disease and want to help find some sort of cure for it. After our journey with Grammy I can just see that we were so blessed to be all together as a family on the journey with Grandma. It was a trial for her but a blessing for us. She has touched my life forever and because of it I will continually try to serve those around me the best I can. Our family did such an awesome job raising money for this fundraiser. Thank you to all who contributed and walked, it was a great success! And you can all count on me to take part in it next year too!

I am also gonna share the photos from the Diabetes walk. A whole other disease my immediate family deals with. We all love our papa Floyd and support him the best way we can as he deals with this health issue every day. It's a struggle A LOT of people deal with now a days. Instead of walking this year, we decided we'd rather volunteer and support those who were walking. It sounds like we were taking the lazy approach to it, but I disagree. It was actually fun to share the exciting energy of the families there supporting some one in their family. It was cool to be at the registry desk and meet the people who are affected by it and have an amazing story behind it. It was awesome to see teams of families that had shirts that said "Team Rachel" or "Team Billy" Many families are affected by this disease. I say family because one person may have diabetes but it's the support of family that helps get through the tough times. After our five hours of making sure every one was set to walk we were able to go to the zoo and see the new baby elephant. Oh that baby was cute I just wanted to get on the other side of the fence and wrestle with it... I think I want a pet elephant instead of a puppy.... But now I'm torn seein this new little Mr. Ridge... hm.

Bye Bye Titty...Hello Patrick Ridge Sain

Titty left our house today and is now at the Humane Society probably scared to death. It breaks my heart to even think about her there and not here, but in the same note...I CAN BREATHE!!!! Zachary finally gave her up and I am eternally grateful. It was hard, but it simply had to be done. Bye bye Titty, and thank you Zachary for your compromise. I love you. (Refer to my blog for more info about this compromise business)

But...HELLO to the newest member of our family...Mr. Patrick Ridge Sain. He is a Maltease Shih Tzu and is a hypoallergenic dog which means that he doesn't shed and he doesn't put off allergies for us sensitive folk. He is precious. Absolutely precious. We picked him up today and I haven't been able to put him down since. Zachary misses Titty but he is warming up nicely to Ridge. We named him just Ridge, but I decided to throw Patrick in the mix because Jared gave me the idea. Ridge is all in lieu of course, because of West Ridge which is Zachary's home away from home. We love our little Ridge so very much!!! I can't wait for you all to meet him.

Now... I just need to get his Halloween costume and we will be all set!!!

P.S. I can't help but wonder what Grammy would have thought of this little guy.

I honestly think she would have loved him...a lot more than Titty.

Halloween Party???

Jessica and I were talking tonight and we think it would be fun to have a Rushton Halloween Party! Of course it would be a dress up party and we would like to have a prize for the best costume. Whose interested? What day would work best for everyone? Deb says it's okay to have it at her house, so plan on it being there. As for the day and time, that's all up in the air. We could play games and have a pot luck dinner. Let me know what you guys think. Love you all!!

I was so proud of those who walked in the Alzheimer's Walk in Murray: Tessa, Brent, Jamie, Zach, Jessica, Regan and Debbie. Good funds were raised and the best part....a new gardening hat!!!

Do you think Norma is through visiting with everyone and has taken a break to look down at us and wonder how we are doing? If so, I hope she knows we miss her.

The walk to cure Alzheimer's

Hey family and friends!
I am writing because of the Alzheimer's walk me and some of my family will be participating in next weekend. As most of you know the past 3 years we have had an amazing journey and blessing to help take care of our sweet grammy who had Alzheimer's. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done, to watch her slowly slip away and not be able to do and say things for herself. Alzheimer's is a disease that affects the brain and diminishes the memory. It is not fun to see a loved one go through this and have the fear that I might have it one day too. I bet most of you know of some one in your life that has been or is being affected by this disease. My family and I want to help the fight against this disease by participating in this walk for Alzheimer's which raises money to help find a cure. So I invite you to join or us on saturday the 19th at Murray high school at 8 am. I know most of you wont be able to make it so donating would be so awesome of you! Akward Adjustments

Yesterday after school I was driving to my parents to pick up something and I seriously thought "Oh I wonder if I need to go help with grammy at all...." Nope. This is SUCH a weird adjustment! I honestly don't know what to do with myself. Finding a job seems so worthless. Working some job doesn't feel even close to be as satisfying as being with grammy was.

Jamie sometimes I get angry/SAD too, because helping Grammy was so good and I keep wondering what is it that Heavenly Father wants me to do now, and if I can even do it. All I know is that whenever I start to get sad I am overcome with this feeling that Grammy is right next to me not wanting me to feel that way. I know she wants us to be happy for her, but it's SO hard to let go. I can only imagine how hard this is for you James being there everyday, just waiting for her to walk out of her room with her big comforter dragging behind her.

Grammy's Funeral

I can hardly believe that it has been a full week since Grammy has died. It's been hard to adjust to the quietness of this house and the lack of "duties" I have here. I'm sure a lot of you can relate, as in the last two weeks we all worked hard to take extra care of her. I am so thankful for the "night crew" and their undying love for Grammy and their efforts to be with her. We all did a great job at caring for her. I love you guys and MISS you all! Norma Bawden Rushton Earl 1931 ~ 2009 At the age of 78, our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, sister, friend (Grammy, G'ma, Pretty Lady, Cutie Pie, Fancy Friend), Norma Bawden Rushton Earl, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at her home with her devoted family at her side.She is the youngest child of John Henry and Kate Warr Bawden, born July 23, 1931 in Granger, Utah. She attended Monroe School first grade through ninth grade, then Cyprus High School. She married her sweetheart, Floyd Leland Rushton in 1947. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. They had a beautiful life together until Floyd died of a sudden heart attack in September of 1966. This was a huge challenge for her with her two teenage sons and two small daughters, ages six and two and a half. She went back to school at Utah Technical College. She worked for Electronic Memories, ZCMI, and Granite School District. She and her children were sealed to Floyd in 1967. She was blessed to find a second love in her life and married Harold LeRoy Earl in August of 1968. They enjoyed a full life together until he passed away in February of 2000. Norma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various ward callings, (including Sunday School Secretary, Primary Teacher and Chorister, Den Leader, etc.) She loved dancing, singing (sang with Harmon Senior Center Choir-Noteable Angels), camping, golfing, bowling, traveling and being a homemaker. Most of all she loved her family, her two husbands, children, grandchildren and friends. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Floyd Steven Rushton (Barbara Thomas), Brett LeLand Rushton (Virginia Isom), Debra Jean (Russ) Dangerfield, Jill Ann (Richard) Hoth; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; her sister, Lorene Bawden Tervort, and her brother Don (Bernice) Bawden. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her two husbands, Floyd and Harold; her sisters, Phyllis, Mildred and Elva; her brothers, Lamar, Jack and Bence (LeGrand). The past several years she was afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease and her family had the privilege and honor of serving her and feeling of her amazing, sweet spirit. The family would like to thank Dr. Powell and his staff, The Neighborhood House and staff, and Applegate Hospice for being so wonderful. "You never really leave a place you love, part of it you take with you leaving a part of yourself behind". Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hunter 18th Ward, 5600 West 3737 South, West Valley City, Utah. The family will receive friends at a viewing Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Ward House. Have you noticed that the squeaks in the floor are much more noticeable during the night than the day? People have been so generous by sharing food with us. And there are such good cooks out there? Grammy's Status

Well today marked the first day of school for most of us, although Jill's kids started Thursday. Grandma seems to be doing the same as she has been for the past week, still declining but at her own pace. We have all exchanged the thought that this is definitely her journey.
Molly the aide came this morning about nine and gave Grandma a bath. It was an experience and we had a little scare but she made it back into her bed safe 'n sound and nice 'n clean. Molly and I decided that perhaps on Wednesday if the services are needed, a bed bath might be the best route to go. After the bath Grandma was pretty tuckered out and slept soundly for a while.
Tracey the RN came around 12:30 and checked Grandma's vitals. The vitals were strong. We're all just reminding ourselves the fact that this is indeed her journey. She's a strong woman, and is bound and determined to do this her way. I love her for that very reason.
The harpist came today and played for Grandma. Barbara and I were there and were able to listen to the beautiful music. At the beginning, Grandma hollared out and got a little restless. She had never done this during a harpist session before so it was surprising. She calmed down after I gave her some anti-anxiety medicine and the harpist played for 40 min. more. It was so comforting.
We're all just hanging in there and relying on Heavenly Father to continue to give us the strenght to press forward. Love you guys!

Hello all!!

Through this past week of seeing Grandma decline I have been quietly worried about what her death would bring to our relationship with everyone. I have so loved living in her house because it is the root of the family gatherings. I cannot bring myself to think of those family gatherings ceasing because of her passing. I decided that the best way to prevent this happening is to open a blog for everyone to use. This is a blog that each of you can post what's happening in your lives, so we can all view it, comment about it, etc. I realize that I don't have everyone's email addresses added to the 'author' list of this blog. If you have someone's email address that I missed, please email it to me and I will add them onto the 'author' list. Also, if you have any questions about how this things works, let me know.
